Thursday, February 04, 2010  12:00:30 PM PT
Coming on four years ago, Saul Raisin was one of THE big things in US pro cycling. Top 40 in a hard Tour de Suisse and mountain king at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2005. A stage winner in the Tour de Langkawi 2006. Everything looked bright … and then everything went wrong. PEZ recently caught up with a remarkable young man with new goals and new missions.

PEZ Talk: Garmin-Transitions' Steven Cozza
Wednesday, February 03, 2010  10:51:06 PM PT
The last time we spoke to Garmin's Steve Cozza was after the 2008 Paris - Tours; where he produced another solid performance from a consistent and promising year. But the 2009 season wasn't a good one for the Californian; we caught up with him at his Girona summer base, just after he had returned from the Garmin camp in Calpe, to discuss his hopes for 2010.

Looking Ahead 2010: Cyclevox Prognosticates
Thursday, January 28, 2010  10:20:42 AM PT
With so many (too many?) others looking back to best-of-2009 or decade highlights, why not look ahead? A new decade beckons, after all, so who better to make some predictions than the good gentlemen of Cyclevox, Anthony McCrossan and Brian Smith. PEZ sent a couple of teasing questions to get the thought processes flowing. Want to know where you should stick a Euro or two this season?

Ten years a pro and an essential cog in the wheel of Liquigas's Grand Tour attack machine; not to mention a winner on the legendary slopes of the Ventoux. And all of those years with Italian squadra - he's even lost that famous Polish love of good beer; in favour of fine Italian wines. Sylwester Szmyd recently took time to talk to PEZ.

PEZ Talk: Columbia's Tejay Van Garderen
Friday, January 22, 2010  12:24:31 PM PT
Last year he was a stage winner in the Fleche du Sud, GP Tell and Tour de l’Avenir. This year he stepped up a level; taking the GC in the Circuito Montanes and Tour du Haut Anjou as well as second on GC in the Tour de l’Avenir, plus a stage win in the Olympia Tour. And he’s still only 21! After two years at Rabobank Continental, we figured that Tejay Van Garderen would be with Holland's when he entered the ProTour; but the young American from Tacoma, Washington chose HTC-Columbia.

PEZ Talk: Amore & Vita's DS Roberto Gaggioli
Monday, January 18, 2010  9:32:42 PM PT
Sky, Garmin, Astana and the super teams may be the ones making the headlines on the big money transfer whirl; but there's a lot more to pro cycling than the Pro Tour. Take Italian squadra Amore & Vita; there are a few changes there for 2010, new sponsor, new riders, new bikes. But star Ukrainian rider, Yuriy Metlushenko and DS Roberto Gaggioli aren't going anywhere; albeit Roberto has moved from his adopted home in the USA back to la Bella Italia.

Introducing A New Voice: Endura's James Moss
Wednesday, January 13, 2010  6:48:47 AM PT
Before January 1st, James Moss worked in his office as a property surveyor, but after the New Year, his life changed: that’s the day he became a full time professional bike rider – and one of Pez’s men in the firing line, contributing stories from some of Europe’s most famous – and tough, races. Before he starts filing dispatches from enemy lines, we thought we better find out a little about Brian Smith’s latest conscript to the Endura expeditionary force.

PEZ Talk: In Depth With Joe Papp
Wednesday, January 13, 2010  6:47:13 AM PT
A few weeks ago, PEZ ran an interview with Joe Papp; one of the very few riders to admit, face up to and openly discuss the fact he failed a drugs test. Like most folks, we're sick of the drugs scandals, but then the Tom Zirbel situation pops up and we to have accept that it's still a problem and we need to understand it better. Here's what Joe had to say - and it's scary !

PEZ Talk: You Gotta Love Kenny
Monday, January 11, 2010  9:12:56 AM PT
It's ironic that 2009 was Kenny Van Hummel's best ever opening to a season - five solid wins, including a stage at the Four Days of Dunkirk and runner up slots in the Netherlands Elite Road Champs and Scheldeprijs. Ironic, because most folks remember him for being at the other end of the bunch - fighting daily to make the time cut as le Tour's 'lanterne rouge.' PEZ caught up with Kenny the day before he took to the winter boards for the Rotterdam Six.

PEZ Talk: Sky's Budding Star Serge Pauwels
Friday, January 08, 2010  9:25:33 AM PT
Out of the kitchen french windows, it's hard to see where grey River Forth ends and heavy grey sky begins - on the other end of the phone is Team Sky's Serge Pauwels; 'I'm on the Costa Blanca, it's 21 degrees, I just did four hours in shorts and short sleeves.' Rather than risk being house bound by the ice, snow and winds of Northern Europe, the 26 year-old from Edegem in the Flemish province of Antwerp, follows the birds south to do his training for what will be the biggest season of his life.

PEZ Talk: Sprinting For Change - Rahsaan Bahati
Sunday, January 03, 2010  10:35:02 PM PT
Compton, Los Angeles: ‘about 21.5% of families and 23.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 35.6% of those under age 18’ - that’s what the demographics say. Not the likeliest of places for a top pro athlete to hail from, you might think? But 2008 US criterium champion, Rahsaan Bahati emerged from that very city; and with his new Bahati Foundation pro team will be going back there to spread the message to kids that their life really can be what they want it to be. Here’s what Rahsaan had to say to Pez, recently.

A tall figure in the classic blue and red of Great Britain grabs a gap; behind him, the likes of Rene Pijnen, Roger de Vlaeminck and Jean Pierre Monsere can only watch as Graham Webb snatches the rainbow jersey from under their noses.

We don't often get the chance to talk to one of the guys that makes the machines run that make it all happen: the mechanic. Nathaniel Brewster recently caught up with a great one: Daimeon Shanks.
