Alastair Hamilton - Spanish Correspondent
A lifelong fan and enthusiast, Alastair offers a truly
unique depth of experience in competitive cycling. His love of the
sport has led to involvement throughout Europe as a racer, pro team
mechanic, directeur sportif, sales rep, tour giude, and writer -
and he's not even old enough to be a grand-dad!
Originally from Scotland - Alastair began racing on
the road as "wee nipper" of 17 years. This led him to
England where he continued racing and began working in a bike shop.
A friendly connection through Paul Sherwin landed Alastair a mechanic's
job for Raleigh-Banana team, which raced in Holland, Spain, France,
Belgium & Britain, and subsequent postings with several teams
including BCF, PCA and the F.S.Maestro team; and races including:
World R.R. Champs, World T.T. Champs, World Track Champs, World
Junior R.R. Champs, World MTB Champs, Kellogs Tour, Milk Race, Cuircuit
de la Sarthe, Nissan Tour,
G.P. Formies, Isgebergs, Wincanton Classic, Leeds Classic, lots
of Belgian semi-classics & kermesses, and many other races he
"can't remember"!
Then began Al's MTB stage, first for Finnish Line
lube service, then tech service for Sachs, then Giant X country
teams, and finishing with Helly Hanson/Giant team.
He still rides 3 - 4 times a week , but admits that
since having joined the world of the computer-literate (only 7 months
ago!) he's finding it tougher to get out as much as he'd like.
Besides providing up-to-date coverage of Spanish and
European racing news for PCN, Alastair works for a bicycle tour
company in Alicante, Spain.
