Post-Giro Roadside: This year I chased just three stages. I chose the three stages closest to home for me, in the centre of Italy, on the Adriatic side. At the end these three days, they had been the warmest days of the entire Giro; we have never had it so hot in May. Now it’s colder and those days seem so far in the past. Was it just a dream?

The Giro, ah, yes; where all that matters is the race - stars, water carriers, heroes and a few villains.

Post-Giro Roadside: The Centenary Giro has only been over for a few days, but my personal trip to the Corsa Rosa ended back on Stage 5. With two and a bit weeks back in the real world of ‘work’, that first week of fun could just as easily been last year. Race Report: The Centenary Giro is over and it will probably take another 100 years before they serve up a finish as exciting, heart-stopping, but ultimately as sporting as we saw today in Rome. Denis Menchov added another Grand Tour to his palmares on the rain soaked roads of Rome that saw Ignatas Konovalovas claim the fourth stage win of the race for the Cervélo Test Team.

Ben Swift (Katusha & GB) was watching the Giro on TV last year at this time; now he's jousting with Cav, Ale Jet and Tyler Farrar in hairy finishes - and fighting to survive eight hour, baking mountain epics. He was the third rider to be Pezzed at the Hermitage Hotel on the second rest day. It's scary how young he looked as he settled into the chair opposite us.

Race Report: Carlos Sastre showed that his Tour de France victory might not have been a one-off as many have suspected with a stellar ride on the Monte Petrano today. Sastre showed that his climbing is nothing to be scoffed at, but on the line, his margin of victory wasn't nearly enough to rustle the feathers of Menchov and Di Luca. Much has been made about the big time trial from Sestri Levante to Riomaggiore. I guess this could be one of the shortest race reports in history. The riders reckoned the circuit was too iffy for racing, so they made a pact to restrict the action until the last couple of laps. The sprinters’ teams kept the “race” locked down until Mark Cavendish finished things off with the stage win.

Race Report: Today the Giro staged its one and only real foray into the Dolomites. The stage was short and to the point - Alpe di Siusi. The mammoth climb had it all, a selection was made, some notables missed the boat, but for the most part, the favorites stayed close together, whilst a certain Vuelta loving Russian showed em all how it's done in the finishing sprint.

Since this year's Giro d'Italia starts in Venice and finishes in Rome, those famously decisive climbs of the Dolomites occur in the first week. Stage 5 finishes with a 25 kilometer, 6% climb up the Alpe di Siusi. Pez rides it (twice) and enjoys it (once).

Roadside St. 4: It was a day of changes today at the Giro. Jerseys changed hands, we left behind the flat plains and seaside of the Veneto and Friuli, and the mountains have started. After a wander around (and above!) the start in Padova, Pez hit the road and drove one of the day’s two climbs, then camped out at 1.5k to go to see who was doing it easy and who was doing it tough.

Giro'09 Preview: Stage 12's Incredible Time Trial

Much has been made about the big time trial from Sestri Levante to Riomaggiore. It's 61k, full of climbing, nary a piece of straight road: in short, it's probably the hardest time trial we've ever seen. Nobody, save the GC boys, has taken a closer look at it though. PEZ took up the reigns of responsibility, and had a closer look at what could be the most important stage of the 2009 Giro d'Italia.

Giro '09 Preview: Stage 5 Alpe di Siusi

Since this year's Giro d'Italia starts in Venice and finishes in Rome, those famously decisive climbs of the Dolomites occur in the first week. Stage 5 finishes with a 25 kilometer, 6% climb up the Alpe di Siusi. Pez rides it (twice) and enjoys it (once).
