Di Luca goes for Fleche-Wallone
Simoni at Lombarda ready for Liege

It is finally time for Danilo Di Luca to take on the Ardenne classics, the races the new Saeco-Longoni Sport team leader has always put at the top of his list of objectives for this part of the season.

Di Luca will be looking to win Wednesday’s Fleche-Wallone race. Many people consider him a favourite for the race even if he was unable to show his form in the recent weather-conditioned Tour of the Basque Country.

Along with Di Luca, the Saeco team will include Celestino, Cunego, Pepoli, Sacchi, Spezialetti, Spaniard Astarloa and Austrian Glomser.
Regarding the other leader of Claudio Corti’s team -Gilberto Simoni, he will ride part of the Settimana Lombarda -which starts Wednesday April 17 before heading to Belgium to ride Liege-Bastogne-Liege with Di Luca on Sunday.

“We decided with Simoni that he would be benefit from riding several stages of the Settimana Lombarda as preparation for Liege,” Corti said. “We don’t want to upset the organiser of the Settimana Lombarda but we need Simoni to help Di Luca in what is one of the most important objectives of our season.”

At Lombarda with Simoni will be Conte, Galletti, Mason, Pugaci, Sabaliauskas, Tonti and Wegmann.
