Our first look at the IRWIN AON GX35 carbon tubeless-ready wheels for gravel riding – as seen at Sea Otter 2018. Priced at US $1550, these promise some solid value.
They’re available in both carbon and aluminum versions, the GX35 look to be another step in the right direction started by the Irwin TLR 38 road clinchers that we reviewed here. Irwin designed these rims and hubs, and have em built in their own factory in Taiwan.
They feature an aero shape that is 35mm deep, 30mm wide where the brake track would be if these weren’t disc wheels… and 24mm wide inside to hold tires up to 40mm wide.
Spokes are Sapim D-Lights, 24 front and 24 rear.
The set weighs a claimed 1548 grams.
Hubs use Enduro bearings, and 6 pawls for sure-fire engagement, and the end-caps are convertible so you can run multiple axle configurations.
Rim tape come pre-installed, and you can run your choice of tubes, or tubeless tire set ups.
These will be shipping by end of May, and can be pre-ordered online at the IRWIN website.
