The First Steel Road Bike with Fully Integrated Cable Routing Just Got Even More Unique

Officina Battaglin, the Italian steel bike brand founded by the 1981 Giro-Vuelta winner Giovanni Battaglin and his son Alex, has just announced that its Power+ EVO model is getting a full revamp.

Launched in 2020, the Power+ EVO is the first steel road bike in the world designed for a fully integrated cockpit with completely hidden, internal cable routing.

Now Officina Battaglin showcases the “Edizione Anniversario” (Anniversary Edition), an enhanced, exclusive version that honors the birth of the company and its founder’s Grand-Tour double:

“This year marks the 40th anniversary of both the Battaglin brand and Giovanni Battaglin’s greatest career accomplishment, the Giro-Vuelta double”, said Officina Battaglin’s CEO Alex Battaglin. “Each frame will commemorate this huge milestone with a gold-plated badge on the seat tube, with a specially-commissioned emblem and a real diamond in it.”

There will be only 70 custom Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario frames or bikes in 2021, all individually numbered.

However, more than half of the build slots have already been reserved. More than just an anniversary edition.

Despite its name, the Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario is way more than a commemorative model.

Giovanni and Alex had achieved the Power+ EVO’s clean look thanks to the custom Columbus Spirit HSS tubes “GB81” developed by the Italian tubing manufacturer to Officina Battaglin’s specifications.

These tubes, engineered around the Deda DCR system, allow for routing all the brake and derailleur cables internally when the frame is equipped with any major electronic groupset.

But Alex and Giovanni still saw room for improvement. The frame design has been completely revamped, starting with a new Italian-made carbon fork and a tapered steerer:
“We developed our own carbon fork, which is entirely fabricated in Italy. We had our own mould created for it, with a D-shaped steerer tube which allowed us to go from a straight to a tapered steerer. Compared to the previous fork, it’s lighter too.”

The Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario’s upgrade includes the paint scheme as well, with black paint fading to red cromovelato: “In our designers’ vision, the black fading to red had to evoke a predator emerging from the asphalt. But like for all our custom frames, the colors can be customized according to the owner’s preferences.”

Ordering a Power+ EVO
The Power+ EVO 2021 will be available exclusively by ordering at Officina Battaglin.
Customers will enjoy the full experience of having a frame or bike tailor-made to their preferences. Each frame will be custom-made to the owner’s measurements, after an individual consultation with Giovanni and Alex Battaglin.

A custom Power+ EVO includes:

  • Custom steel frame built from scratch in the Battaglin workshop 2. carbon fork
  • Custom paint or custom cromovelato finishing
  • Deda Vinci stem in matching finish
  • Deda Vinci handlebar in matching finish
  • Individually numbered plate
  • Certificate of Authenticity

The price for a Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario frameset custom-made in the Battaglin workshop starts from 5.000€.

Egan Bernal Wins the 104th Edition of the Giro d’Italia with SIDI
The young Colombian has racked up plenty of successes on his first participation in the Corsa Rosa.

A young and modern star cyclist but also deeply tied to the GRANDE CICLISMO way of racing, Egan is a perfect ambassador for Sidi Sixty that embodies all of Sidi’s heritage. It’s a shoe that commemorates his leadership at the Giro d’Italia and his successes, undoubtedly an exciting and unforgettable emotion.

Egan Bernal’s Giro d’Italia begins with the victory of the 9th stage from Castel di Sangro to Campo Felice, 158 km and over 3,000 meters elevation gain. It was an undulating and technical course that ended with a climb, on a dirt road, leading to the finish line. There, Egan attacked and made the difference by tackling the slopes, featuring 8 to 14% gradients, with particular explosiveness. The talent is undoubted but Bernal himself declared he couldn’t believe what happened. It was in fact his first victory in a Grand Tour.

Campo Felice not only gave him a victory, but also the Pink Jersey as leader of the general classification, a jersey he is somewhat familiar with as he already won the Tour de France, but which has a very special charm: it is his first Pink Jersey in his first participation.

Seven stages later, Egan offered another moment of great cycling by winning at Cortina d’Ampezzo, after attacking on the Passo Giau on a day of bad weather. The stage designed for real climbers saw the Pink Jersey crossing the finish line in front of Romain Bardet and Damiano Caruso, considerably increasing the lead in the overall standings.

“Winning with the Maglia Rosa is special, that’s why I took off my jacket at the end. I wanted to show it at the finish. It was a tough stage but I faced it with a clear mind and the right concentration. I knew I would suffer, but I’m really happy!” he stated immediately after the finish.

Before the start of the Giro he confessed his desire to race it and, in addition to the stage victories, he also: set the climbing record on the Zoncolan riding at an average speed of 19.63 kph; wore the Pink Jersey after 9 days from the start and retained it with all the determination and teamwork necessary until the end; led the youth classification with 6:04 over Vlasov and his teammate Martinez.

“It was such an exciting Giro d’Italia that kept us in suspense until the end. The last stages livened up the race and gave our company incredible satisfaction. Four stage victories, the pink jersey and the white jersey are quite a result that makes us absolutely proud to be part of this wonderful sport that is cycling.” said Rosella Signori.

We like to think that the Sidi Sixty contributed to the successes of a great and very young champion, who inspired the model designed for riders with categorized climbs in their DNA with his feedback. The Sidi Sixty is light, high-performance, resistant and naturally comfortable, and now, only for him, absolutely PINK.

Sidi Sixty – what you need to know
Produced with cutting-edge materials, the Sidi Sixty is a mix of tradition and innovation, capable of offering precision in adjustment through a single rotor, which also allows to reduce the weight of the shoe while ensuring a micrometric closure and an optimized tension release speed. This aerodynamic shoe ensures high-level performance to the point that it seems sewn on the foot of a champion like Egan Bernal, who is able to excel even in critical riding conditions.

The ultra-light Vent Carbon sole was designed to optimize power transfer during pedaling and to guarantee maximum resistance and breathability through special integrated air ducts providing ventilation and heat dispersal. The air vents can be opened or closed according to the weather and the season, making this shoe completely versatile.

The sole is made from carbon fibres, which give the shoe the right balance of stiffness and controlled flexibility in the toe, relieving stress to insole tendons and favoring proper circulation during exertion. The integrated heel also features a new, light design, which provides an incredible anatomic aid, sustaining the foot comfortably during pedaling and preventing deformations caused by prolonged periods of pressure.

MAAP Evade Pro Base Jersey // Giving Excess Fabrics A New Life

According to the 2020 Preferred Fiber and Materials Market Report, “global fiber production has doubled in the last 20 years, reaching an all-time high of 111 million metric tons in 2019 and pre-COVID-19 results indicated potential growth to 146 million metric tons by 2030”. Conversely, Reverse Resources concluded from their 2017 study that 47% of all fibre entering the fashion value chain becomes waste throughout the myriad of different stages of production from fibre, yarn, fabric up to a garment.

When confronted with the issue of excess fabrics from previous production runs of their jerseys, MAAP were faced with a number of solutions. While they could contribute to the growing number of textiles that end up in landfill each year: an average of 31 kilos of textiles per person annually, at a national rate of 15 tonnes of textile waste every ten minutes; instead they chose to address this problem with a creative solve that not only benefits the environment, but empowers cyclists to be part of the solution.

Drawing inspiration from 1980s shoe salesperson who would carry around a colorful amalgamation of all available colors rolled into one shoe, the MAAP Off-Cuts Program takes excess fabrics from previous production runs of their most popular jerseys, and repurposes them into your favorite styles. They’ve launched this program with the new multi-colorway in their most popular style, the ultra-soft Evade Pro Base Jersey.

This program marks the beginning of a long running product initiative in an effort to reduce the amount of excess fabrics ending up in landfill; as part of MAAP’s ongoing commitment to their sustainability practices. From season to season, more uniquely different styles will be developed as part of the Off-Cuts Program, all available in extremely limited quantities.

The Off-Cuts Program Evade Pro Base Jersey is available online now in limited quantities via maap.cc and from select MAAP retailers.

About Jubel
We discovered two things during some après antics at La Folie Douce. The first was Jubel – an après anthem that meant “a feeling of extreme joy”. The second was demi-pêche – a pint of lager with a peach top. This dangerously refreshing beer secret swiftly became the beer style we wanted to drink that no one brewed, so we sunk our savings into a trial brew that flew at a festival, and escaped our 9-5s to pioneer a new style of beer.

We brew three dangerously refreshing craft lagers cut with fruit. Jubel packs the refreshment of a fruit cider and sessionability of a crisp lager, and is vegan, gluten-free, and a sociable 4% ABV for easy-access.

We might be the new beer on the block but all three of our brews have already scooped up UK Country Winner in the World Beer Awards:

  • Peach: A lively lager that packs a punch of fresh peaches.
  • Grapefruit: A crisp lager with waves of juicy grapefruit.
  • Elderflower: A laid back lager that floats with floral notes.
