What's Cool In Road Cycling

The WINNER Is: AMClassic C58 Carbon Wheels

I was deep in the Vosges mountains at the 2014 Tour when the winner’s bell rang for the set of American Classic’s C58 carbon clincher wheels… Congratulations to Ty Brewer of Texas – long time PEZ-fan but first time winner!

Time zones and time on the Tour made getting in touch with Ty trickier than usual, but turns out cell phones work just fine in the land of wine, baguettes and cheese, and Ty was even more surprised too that I called him between the stages of my roadside reporting shift.

Like a lot of PEZ contest winners, Ty said this was the first thing he’s won – ever – and like every PEZ contest winner – he was thrilled (as if he’d react any other way to winning a gleaming new set of fast carbon wheels designed by one of the smartest brains in cycling or anywhere else for that matter…) Bill Shook of American Classic.

Ty’s bike looks right at home with the new C58 carbon clinchers from American Classic.

Congratulations again to Ty and thanks to everyone else who entered – and keep it dialed PEZ for another great contest coming soon.

The Carbon 58 Clinchers are better than ever with new 22mm wide rims. The Series 3 spoke system creates consistent spoke tension and equal load sharing for increased wheel durability. Get the best of both worlds, carbon in a clincher format to use every day or as race wheels with an aerodynamic advantage.

Bill Shook selected the aluminum bead over an all carbon bead for improved braking, and to protect the tire and avoid flats. Stiff and compliant, they hold high cruising speed with less effort. Carbon 58 wheels roll smoothly and are notably comfortable, a surprise from a deep profile rim. Carbon 58 Clinchers are an all around performer at an excellent price point to carry you to the win.

The C58 wheels are the big bro’ version of the C38 Carbon Clinchers that we reviewed here – and were very impressed with.
