TOP STORY: B&B Hotels-KTM Stops
The French newspaper Le Télégramme has announced that the B&B Hotels-KTM team will not be in the peloton next year. Team boss Jérôme Pineau hoped to race at Continental level with the men’s team, but now he has pulled the plug on the project.
The French B&B Hotels-KTM team was to expand in 2023, but the opposite has happened. Pineau is said to have announced the end of the B&B project in a two-hour video conference. The former rider was still looking at the option of racing at Continental level with twelve riders, but this is apparently not a feasible option now either.
Pineau also wanted to create a women’s team. French champion Audrey Cordon-Ragot, Chloe Hosking and Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer were to be leaders and he hoped to get a ‘wildcard’ for the next Tour de France Femmes, but this is also now cancelled. This means that many riders are suddenly unemployed, with just over a month before the start of the new season.

Chris Froome Starts His Season in the Santos Tour Down Under
Chris Froome’s first race of 2023 will be in Australia. The four-time Tour de France winner will start his season in the Santos Tour Down Under from 17th to 22nd January. Froome told RoadCycling.
Froome couldn’t say too much about the rest of his program, but he still dreams of the Tour de France. “I have an ideal scenario in my head, I want to be ready for it,” said the 37-year-old Briton. “But I would also like to return to the Giro d’Italia. We will see.”
Froome still enjoys life as a professional cyclist, he said. “I love cycling, the training sessions, the team spirit, the process of getting the best out of yourself. I am still motivated. And I am now completely healthy again.” Froome showed improvement in the past Tour de France, with a third place on Alpe d’Huez as the highlight, although he had to abandon because of a covid infection.
“Corona played tricks on me last fall. Because I am asthmatic, I was able to put an end to the second part of my season. After I still rode the Vuelta at the end of the cycling year, I took a three-week break. Now I’m training again,” said the Israel-Premier Tech rider.

Tom Pidcock has Ten Cyclo-Cross Races to the End of January
World champion Tom Pidcock will ride at least ten more cross races this winter. He will ride the World Cup races in Dublin, Gavere and Benidorm, but it is still unknown whether Pidcock will start the cyclo-cross World championships in Hoogerheide.
After next weekend’s Dublin World Cup, Pidcock will go on a training camp. This is followed by a busy Christmas period for the world champion with seven races in twelve days, between December 23 and January 3. In 2022, Pidcock will compete in the Exact Cross Mol, the World Cup Gavere, the Superprestige Heusden-Zolder, the Superprestige Diegem and the Exact Cross Loenhout.
At the beginning of 2023, Pidcock will be at the start of the X2O Trophy Baal and the X2O Trophy Herentals. After that he has another training camp in Mallorca, followed the Benidorm World Cup on January 22, two weeks before the World championships in Hoogerheide. Will Pidcock defend his World title?

Warren Barguil Second in his First Triathlon
Warren Barguil rode his first triathlon on Saturday, the ‘0-3000’, a tough triathlon on the French island of La Réunion and finished second.
The race has a very selective route, which connects the coastline of the island of La Réunion with the summit of Piton des Neiges, an inactive volcano on La Réunion and also the highest mountain on the island at 3,071 metres above sea level. The triathlon finished at the top of Piton des Neiges.
Due to water pollution, the 1,500 metres swimming was replaced by an extra 2.5 kilometres of running, followed by 45 kilometres of cycling with 1,800 meters of climbing and finally 10 kilometres of running to the top of the Piton des Neiges. Barguil led for some time, but was overtaken in the final by the eventual winner Cyril Bourdon, a mountain biker.
“It was leaden. I actually got up a bit sick, perhaps because of the air conditioning in the room, and then it is not easy when you have to breathe at this altitude. It really is something special and something for specialists and athletes with track knowledge. I was sorry we couldn’t swim, I was looking forward to it. I would like to get back in top condition and then take a shot at the win,” said Barguil after the race.
The Frenchman was at the start in special equipment. Ekoï, a leading brand in the international cycling equipment market, is a personal sponsor and came up with a custom aero tri helmet.

Ramon Sinkeldam to Alpecin-Deceuninck for Two Years
Ramon Sinkeldam will race for Alpecin-Deceuninck for the next two seasons. The experienced sprinter has signed for two years with the team of Mathieu van der Poel and Jasper Philipsen.
The 33 year-old Sinkeldam was to be with B&B Hotels-KTM, but Jérôme Pineau’s French team is no more (see above). Sinkeldam didn’t want to wait any longer and has now signed with Alpecin-Deceuninck before the final announcement. This is not a big surprise as Sinkeldam was already associated with the Roodhooft brothers team.
Sinkeldam has been a sprint lead-out man for Arnaud Démare at Groupama-FDJ for the past four seasons. Alpecin-Deceuninck also has their top sprinter in Jasper Philipsen, who can still use a good lead-out. In conversation with Rouleur, Philipsen recently announced that partly due to the long absence of last man Jonas Rickaert, he was not satisfied with his train in 2022 and would like to work on this over the winter.
Sinkeldam has to further perfect the lead-out with his new team. “It may sound like a cliché, but it’s the truth: I’m incredibly happy with this opportunity. The puzzle pieces fall in the right place. I am super excited to be part of the Alpecin-Deceuninck sprint train, and to share my experiences with the other riders.”
BORA – hansgrohe Secures Late Transfer: Victor Koretzky Completes the Squad for 2023
The 28-year-old Frenchman, who has to date celebrated his greatest successes in mountain biking, will compete for BORA – hansgrohe on the road in 2023. However, Koretzky will also continue to compete in offroad events and will most likely also be seen at a few gravel races.
“I have to say that I am really happy that we were able to sign Victor. We have already presented ourselves off road in the past, but with Victor’s signing we are now taking on this theme more strategically. In our sport, it is becoming increasingly important to be present over a variety of terrains, especially with a partner like Specialized. Together we can offer Victor a perfect platform both on and off road. The plan is for him to continue racing in the MTB World Cup, but he will also do a slimmed down road race program. In terms of the type of rider he is, I can well imagine that one or two semi-classics in the spring would suit him well. B&B Hotel’s Luca Mozzato May Go to Trek-Segafredo
The future of B&B Hotels-KTM didn’t look too good last week, but Luca Mozzato maybe moving up to the Trek-Segafredo team. According to the French newspaper Le Télégramme, WorldTour team Trek-Segafredo are interested in the Italian.
Despite a contract with B&B Hotels-KTM until the end of 2025, Mozzato could go to Trek-Segafredo. He was previously linked to Arkéa-Samsic, which will also be a WorldTour team from 2023. The 24-year-old Mozzato has never won in his career, but has taken several top ten results in the Tour de France, a fifth place in Paris-Tours and a third place in Danilith Nokere Koerse. He was also runner-up in the Tro-Bro Léon.

It remains to be seen whether the B&B Hotels-KTM team will be in the peloton next year. The riders have now been told that they are free to leave. One of these riders, Pierre Rolland, looks to be on his way to TotalEnergies.
According to the French sports newspaper L’Équipe, the now 36-year-old Rolland will not race for B&B Hotels-KTM (or anyone else) next year, but for TotalEnergies. The experienced French climber extended his contract with the team of manager Jérôme Pineau in September, but now seems to be moving on. Rolland rode for the predecessor of TotalEnergies from 2009 to 2015.

Fenix and Deceuninck step up to naming partners of our women’s team: “Giving men and women equal opportunities”.

Savio’s New Team: GW Shimano-Sidermec
Due to financial difficulties, Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli will not be a ProTeam in 2023, but manager Gianni Savio previously said he will continue at Continental level. His ‘new’ team will be known as GW Shimano-Sidermec next year, according to the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Savio previously said that a merger with a South American Conti team is almost complete. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Savio can count on two new sponsors in 2023. These are GW and Shimano, who this year were sponsors of Colombia Tierra de Atletas, a team that has the support of the Colombian government.
Savio’s team will race on a Colombian Continental license next year. It is currently still a guess as to the final roster, but Jhonatan Restrepo, Didier Merchan and Brandon Alejandro Rojas should be a core part of the team in 2023. “Our intention is to return to the professional level in 2024 through a transition year at Continental level with a project for young, promising riders,” Savio said.
“It is a team that mainly consists of young Colombian talents. With this restart at continental level, I still have the same enthusiasm as when I started, about thirty years ago,” said Savio, who has trained several Colombian riders in the past. “Racing remains my great passion and my return to South America is a celebration of the continent where I have discovered many talents, including Egan Bernal.”

Team Novo Nordisk Confirm 18 Rider Roster for 2023
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team, go into 2023 with an 18-rider roster that combines youthful talent with experience and ready to take on their 13th season in the UCI pro ranks.
If 2021 was the season of frustration, then 2022 was the season of rediscovery and results. Top ten leading to the podium and the podium leading to victory.
At GP Kranj in Slovenia last July Andrea Peron achieved his lifelong dream of a professional win, demolishing the field of competition with an early attack towards the top of the final climb in central Kranj and exploding into the last 500m with nothing but focus and raw power pushing through the pedals, over the finish line and overcome with emotion.
2022 came together in that moment. A decade long career encapsulated in the final kilometre of a bike race. More than 500 million people living with diabetes around the world sharing what inspiration can look like and a community brought together with the joy of what is possible.
“What a season we had,” began CEO & Co Founder Phil Southerland. “After the challenges of 2021, we started this year by telling the guys to get back to basics. With the 2023 season already fast approaching, UAE Team Emirates are pleased to announce the people who will work behind the scenes for the forthcoming campaign.

2023 Maglia Rosa, Modern and Digital Style
The symbol of the Giro d’Italia’s leadership will have a modern and digital style for 2023. Designed and produced by Castelli, the Magli Rosa will use recyclable and sustainable Sitip fabrics, and feature ENEL as the lead sponsor.
A limited edition preview run of the Maglia Rosa has been produced for the Christmas period. It can be purchased from today via the Giro online store and the Castelli Cycling website. From February, it will also be available in specialist cycling stores and online shops.
The Maglia Rosa is recognised throughout the world as a historic and innovative symbol of the leadership of the Giro d’Italia.

No Tour Colombia in 2023
The Tour Colombia will not take place in 2023, Ciclismo Internacional reports. The multi-day race was last run in 2020.
The race has since been removed from the UCI calendar and is also missing from the website of the Colombian cycling federation FCC. The race cannot take place in 2023 due to a lack of financial support. The Tour Colombia started in 2018 as the Colombia Oro y Paz and quickly grew into a popular early season race for European riders.
With financial support from the Colombian government, the organisers managed to get big stars such as Julian Alaphilippe, Rigoberto Urán, Nairo Quintana and Fernando Gaviria to start. The last edition was in 2020. Sergio Higuita was the best on the final GC that year, ahead of Daniel Felipe Martínez and Jonathan Caicedo. In 2019, the overall victory went to Miguel Ángel López, Egan Bernal won the first edition in 2018.

Volta ao Algarve Announces More Teams
The Volta ao Algarve (February 15-19) will have three of the best teams in the WorldTour on the start line in 2023. Jumbo-Visma, UAE Team Emirates and INEOS Grenadiers will participate in the Portuguese tour.
The organisers of the Volta ao Algarve announced the teams on Monday in a press release. Jumbo-Visma, UAE Team Emirates and INEOS Grenadiers, who have been very successful in the Portuguese race in the past. The British team had the overall winner in 2012 Richie Porte, 2015 and 2016 Geraint Thomas, and 2018 Michal Kwiatkowski and won eleven stages.
Jumbo-Visma won the Volta ao Algarve in 2017 with Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar was the best in 2019 for UAE Team Emirates. EF Education-EasyPost, Alpecin-Deceuninck, BORA-hansgrohe, Groupama-FDJ, Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, Arkéa Samsic and DSM, all WorldTeams will ride. ProTeams: Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Uno-X and Tudor Pro Cycling will also be present.
The organisers will soon announce three more teams and the Portuguese Conti teams. The route of the 49th Volta ao Algarve is still to be revealed.

For twelve years, Zdenek Stybar was a member of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl. Having come across from cyclo-cross, a discipline where he won three world titles, the Czech established himself as one of the best Classics riders of the peloton, winning Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, E3 Harelbeke and Strade Bianche during his time with the team.
After his final official appearance for the Wolfpack on the road, Zdenek sat down to talk about his decade in the squad, his best memories from all these years and what it all meant for him.

Tro Bro Leon 2023: “Pipich” On the Poster
In France and even across some borders, the Tro Bro Leon’s ribin(s), or ribinoù for those more respectful of Breton grammar, has captured the hearts of cyclists. These unpaved roads, which represent about 30 kilometres of the total distance, require acrobatic skills from the riders and invite comparison with Paris-Roubaix, even though there are very few cobbles. But for the last fifteen years, it is also the poster created by the event’s founder, a graphic designer by trade, which has attracted cycling fans and further affirmed the race’s Breton identity. Most of the time, Jean-Paul Mellouët honours the previous edition’s winner. But he has broken from tradition to depict Laurent Pichon, the rider he considers the moral winner last May, without taking any credit from Hugo Hoffstetter. “He was contending for the win with a few kilometres to go when he got a flat tire at the end of the ‘ribin du château’. He finished for the third time as the best Breton rider, and I think he is the most consistent rider in history, with 11 finishes from 11 participations. So, he deserved this recognition”. In addition to the little pig awarded to the best classified Breton, “Pipich'” also won a traditional hat on the design of the 2023 poster: “you can recognise it by the Celtic frieze that decorates it all around”, the artist explains.
Although Breton champions and riders with a Flemish streak like to battle it out on the ribinou, amateur cyclists can also try their luck. A poster has also been created for the three cyclo-sportive events on the programme, for which registration opens today. On this poster, the former Tour de France polka dot jersey Claudio Chiappucci is honoured by Jean-Paul Mellouët’s pencils, along with 2013 winner Francis Mourey. The Italian never competed in the Tro Bro Leon but is a true lover of the region, he explains. He has already ridden the cyclo-sportive and is the type of guy who stops along the ride to devour a dozen oysters, so he is an unconditional guest.
Like all the others, the former Carrera rider will have the choice of four courses in the Tro Bro Leon Challenge with Giant: the “cyclo” over a distance of 131 km or 107 km, the “gravel” which focuses on the ribinou (26) with 79 km, or the “vintage” over a more accessible 27 km.
- With five months remaining until the 39th edition, which will be held on 7 May 2023, the Tro Bro Leon reveals its annual poster, designed by the event’s creator Jean-Paul Mellouët. This year it features Breton Laurent Pichon, a rider from Arkéa-Samsic who has taken part in the event 11 times with the ribin(s).
