What's Cool In Road Cycling

PEZ Facebook Page Gets New Look!

We love hearing from PEZ-Fans, and one of the best ways to have your say and get even more out of Pez is on our new look Facebook page. And with long-time PEZ-Man Chris Selden taking the reigns, there’s now even more to see, read, and maybe even share – special features from the vast Pez photo archives, cool videos and photos from around the world wide web. And to celebrate, we’re giving away PEZ socks to a few lucky fans who “Like” our new PEZ Facebook page.

For those that have missed some of the fun from the last 5 weeks here’s a short recap.

Photo Perfection
We love all cycling photography here at Pez whether it be amateur shots from readers or professional photos from the best in the world and with this in mind we decided to have a best PeloPic of the Month award. But with top cycling photographers like CorVos, Sabine Jacobs, Jered Gruber and Darrell Parks contributing regularly to our PeloPics Gallery, choosing the best shot from August was always going to be a difficult task.

To streamline the process, I decided to appoint myself as judge. I’ll be the first to admit that the awarding of the prize is highly subjective – but still. Inspired by the Olympics I decided to award three medals to what I thought were the 3 best photos as I was struggling to choose just one. With photos like this I couldn’t possibly choose a lemon.

What else can be said about this shot from Jered? This truly is just a perfect cycling photo and was an easy choice for my August Gold medal.

This great pic from Darrell Parks at the USProChallenge took the silver medal – I just love it. The colors, the contrast, the speeding bunch plus Darrell’s ability to perfectly frame it all makes for a truly beautiful photo.

This shot from CorVos at the Eneco Tour took the bronze medal just for the pure suffering it conveys. I love the great scenic shots but sometimes a photo from a totally non-scenic race like Eneco but taken from inside the peloton like this just speaks to me (maybe because I recognize this view of the bunch from my own days as an aspiring racer…?)

Jens Races On!
Probably one of our most popular features since the facebook/pezcycling relaunch was the special ‘Jens Voigt’ week which ran in August to celebrate Voigt’s announcement that he will remain in the pro peloton for one more year. Each day I ran a new photo from the Pez archives combined with a great quote that Jens has given us over the years.

My personal favorite from the citation book of Jens is, “You are all beaten. I am just laughing at you.” But the most popular quote amongst Facebook fans seemed to be the classic, “Shut up legs. Do what I tell you to do.”

For those that missed it, here’s three of the great photos that I dug out of the archive for the Jens week:

You just know Jens is about to give us a great quote here.

“If it hurts me it must hurt the other ones twice as much.”

“No I do not accept defeat here. I do not accept this.”

World Wide Bizarre!
So from superb professional photography we now move onto some bizarre photography with this pic from continental Movistar pro Gregory Brenes and his rather unusual solution for a mid-ride drink…

This pic certainly got people talking, but I’ve yet to see the idea catch on during my training rides.

Our Facebook page is a great place to share crazy cycling photos like this and it’s amazing what comes through our mailbox on a regular basis. The latest videos like GreenEdge’s now infamous ‘Call me maybe’ clip are always going to find a home on our page:

or classics like this embarrassingly pitiful fist fight from the 95 Vuelta:
