Giro Talk Day 13: Rider Comments
Petacchi: “Also this time, the victory is for Denis Zanette. Today we passed through Salice, the town where his family lives, and we stopped to remember our friend. This morning I met at the start his wife and his older daughter, and it was very emotional. I remember that last year, at the Giro, we were in the same bedroom, and he was waiting for his younger daughter. He was really afraid at that time, because he couldn’t see her.
About this stage. I went up with my step, as I couldn’t keep the best, and Frigo sprinted. But then, Ferretti decided to stop him, because the victory was more sure with me. And at the sprint I got more energy because of Zanette”.
Gilberto Simoni: “Today it was looking as a relaxed day, but it has been another hard day. I thought that somebody could spurt in the last hill, and so I was ready for it. Only this morning I realised what I did yesterday; a very big performance. Tomorrow it will be
another hard day, and I’m sure we will be all more tired. I don’t know if I will attack, but for sure I won’t wait for anybody”.
Marco Pantani: “Yesterday I had a very nice day, a performance that I wasn’t expecting. About tomorrow, I don’t know what kind of day I will have. Anyway I’m growing every day, and I will do my best”.
Aussie sprint star Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) withdrew from therace today. He left the Italian race after the end of the stage.
