What's Cool In Road Cycling

A New Look for the Giro di Romagna

– Reported by Datasport.it –

The professionals will take to the roads for the 77th edition of the Giro della Romagna this Sunday, a classic organized by Francesco Barascca from Lugo. It will be a Giro della Romagna that has had a completely revised course, changed on the request of National Coach Franco Ballerini to make it more similar to the World Championship course that will be disputed this October in Zolder, but this year, as before, the race will start and finish in Lugo, a unique classic that traditionally starts and finishes in the same spot.

As a qualifier for selection for the national team, the Giro di Romagna (which was won by Franco Ballerini in ’91) concludes a weekend totally Emiliano-Romagnolo that begins Saturday with the 52nd Coppa Placci, and the overall competition for both races, the 2nd Memorial Adriano De Zan.

There are 19 teams signed up, with many important names, first of which is last years winner Davide Rebellin, racing with the #1 on his Gerolsteiner jersey, but also there will be Michele Bartoli, Ivan Basso, Paolo Bettini, Dario Frigo, Gianni Faresin, Sergio Barbero, Salvatore Commesso, and the new professionals Damiano Cunego and Michele Scarponi.
