Aragon: Caucchioli Takes Stage 3

The Italian rider Pietro Caucchioli (Alessio) to-day won the third stage of the Vuelta a Aragon, contested between Alcorisa and the ski station of Valdelinares at 1,980 metres over a distance of 175 kilometres.

Caucchioli won by 25 seconds from a group containing all the leaders on overall, his Italian compatriate Leonardo Piepoli (ibanesto.com) was second to retain his overall leaders jersey. Also in the leading group was Osa & Shefer. Notable abandonments were Weseman & Cipollini.

Saturday’s stage starts and finishes in Teruel and has two fairly easy hills, and is 156 kilometres.

Stage result. 1st. Caucchioli 4h 43m 57 secs.

2nd. Piepoli at 25 secs.

3rd. Shefer same time.

4th. Fernandez ”

5th. Osa ”

27th Wegelius (GB) at 2.03

33rd. Barry (CAN) at 2.48
