Breaking News: GCN+ To Stop on 19th December

Bad news for cycling fans who watch live (and catch-up) racing on GCN+ or the GCN App. Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) will shut down the popular streaming service on December 19.

Warner Bros. Discovery have done this because of ‘global strategies and improving user-friendliness’ and still offer cycling content through Eurosport, which is part of the same parent company, and Discovery+.

The end of GCN+

“The reason these apps are disappearing is not because the two platforms did not work or scored poorly,” GCN emphasised in a statement. “The reality is that the media landscape has changed and that is why WBD’s streaming services are being unified to provide all content in one place.”

In the statement, GCN also announced that European subscribers of GCN+ will have the option to take out a subscription to Discovery+, Eurosport or Eurosport Extra. Live broadcasts of cycling will continue to be shown there. It is still unclear for viewers of GCN+ outside Europe which channels will be available.

GCN+ informed its customers of the bad news on Wednesday via e-mail. This means that the live streams of cycling races, various cycling documentaries and weekly talk shows will disappear via the apps. GCN’s website and popular YouTube channel, with more than three million subscribers, will continue to exist.
