Cadel Wins Again

– Reported by Team Mapei –
Cadel Evans won today the most difficult stage of the Uniqa Classic race, the stage of 140 kilometres that included 5 Mountain Grand Prixs (two of which of 1st category) The race was characterised by a long 2-man breakaway that gained a maximum advantage of 6 minutes. The main group, made up of approximately 35 riders, reacted during the last 40 kilometres thanks to the contribution of the MAPEI-Quick Step team that was part of the immediate chasers group. At 18 kilometres from the finish, at the foot of the last mountain section, Cadel Evans launched himself catching-up with and leaving behind the two riders that were, up until that point, leading the race and strided on to cross the finish line in first place. The 25-year-old Australian athlete, who did very well at the Tour of Italy 2002, once wearing the Pink Shirt, beat Seweryn Kohut of the De Nardi-Pasta Montegrappa team and Obwaller of the Arbo-Merida team.
