Vuelta A Castilla Y Leуn Stage 1: Scandanavian Win-Day Part 2

After Arvesen winning to-day’s stage of the Giro, his Northern country-man, Thor Hushovd won the first stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y Leуn and is the first overall leader.

The Vuelta a Castilla y Leуn is a 5 day stage race, it starts with three flat stages then finishes with two real hard ba****ds! Leonardo Piepoli (ibanesto.com) always rides well here and is in form at the moment. All the Spanish teams are starting plus BigMat, AG2R, Credit Agricol, Boavista, Lokomotive, Barbot, 05 Orbitel, Phonak, Vini Caldirola, Domina Vicanza & Brioches La Boulangre.

10 kilometres to go it was all together after a few attacks had come to nothing. Marlon Pйrez (05 Orbitel) and Alexei Sivakov (Big Mat) dangled infront of the bunch with 6 kilometres to go on the run-in to the finish in Viadolid, 166 kilometres after the sart in San Andrйs de Rabanedo.

AG2R did the work to bring them back, it was going to be a sprint for the line. The finish was like a town centre criterium, lots of corners and round-abouts. It was a up-hill finish, ibanesto.com were leading out, but Thor Hushvod took the front and no-one could get near him.

Tomorrow is a 22.5 kilometre team time trial, mostly flat.
