“Perdi” Wins Stage 3 Of The Vuelta A Castilla Y Leуn

In a close 3-up sprint, between Miguel Angel Martin Perdiguero “Perdi” (Domina Vicanza), Thor Hushovd (Credit Agricole) and Andrej Hauptman (Vini Caldirola), Perdi came out on top, Javier Pascual (ibanesto.com) took over the overall lead.

Iсigo Chaurreau (AG2r) and Unai Etxebarria (Euskaltel) went away looking for mountain and sprint points, at 20 kilometres to the finish in Almazan, they had 1 minute 9 seconds, on to-day’s stage 3, of 164.8 kilometres.

The bunch were being pulled by Credit Agricole, with 11 kilometres to go it looked like a bunch sprint was in order, as it was a head wind to Almazan, with long straight roads they had them in sight with 5 to go.

A hand-shake between the two signaled the end of their attempt at 4 kilometres to the line. Relax started to come through to help Credit Agricole and Big Mat, the others seemed happy to leave them to it.

On the run in to the finish AG2r were doing the lead out, Hushovd and Hauptman were getting on terms with Perdiguero, it looked very close, but the decision went to Perdi with a lot of finger pointing by Big Thor Hushovd, who must be twice the size of Perdiguero.

ibanesto.com are still in control overall, now Javier Pascual is in the lead and they still have the first six places overall.

Tomorrow’s stage is from El Burgo De Osma to La Granja De San Ildenfonso, 165.6 kilometres with two first cat climbs, both over 1,000 metres high and the last one less than 30 kilometres from the finish.
