Felix Cбrdenas Of 05 Orbitel Wins Stage 4 Of The Vuelta A Castilla Y Leуn, Mancebo New Leader
On a hot day of 34єC, it was a hot day of racing, two big climbs of over 1,000 metres to sort things out on stage four of the Vuelta a Castilla y Leуn.
By the time the race started the last climb, the Alto de Cotos, at just under 1,900 metres after 130 kilometres, Alberto Contador (ONCE) was on his own, behind, his team-mate David Arroyo was trying to cross to him, he brought Josй Antonio Garrido (Paternina) and Adriбn Palomares (Carvalhelhos) with him.
The four were caught before the top to make a lead group of about 20 riders,ibanesto.com had Mancebo and Menchov but no yellow jersey, Javier Pascual.
Garrido had another two attacks to split things up, Colombian team, 05 Orbitel had five riders in the front group and were in control, but ibanesto.com riders only had to finish in the group to hold on to the overall lead.
On the descent the group were split all over the place, with 20 kilometres to the finish in La Granja de San Ildefonso. With 10 to go Felix Cбrdenas (05 Orbitel) was on his own out front, what the time gap was I have no idea, as there was no reports.
At the finish Cбrdenas had managed to stay clear and his team-mate Javier Zapata was in third place. Francisco Mancebo, the winner in 2000 is now in the overall lead.
Tomorrow’s last stage starts and finishes in Avila, 182 kilometres with one second cat. and three first cat. climbs.
