Volta Catalunya:Heras Overall Winner,Stage For Fofonov

The Spanish rider Roberto Heras, of the American team, US Postal, has won the 82nd edition of the Volta a Catalunya. The Kazak, Dmitriy Fofonov of Cofidis took the 7th. & last stage.

This was Fofonovs first win of the season, on the last stage of 115,9 kilometres from Moncada I Reixac to Barcelona in a time of 2 hours 44 minutes 12 seconds. He won the sprint from a group of 17 containing all the top riders on overall. Second was Pascual Rodriguez of ibanesto.com and third was Rumsas of Lampre, as all the leaders were in the front group there was no change in the overall.

Heras’s win is his most important victory since he won the Tour of Spain in 2000, so it is a good sign for his US Postal team that he is over his physical problems and will be able to back up Armstrong in the soon to start Tour de France.
