Cipo Roars Again – Giro Stage 9

Mario Cipollini of Acqua & Sapone won today’s 9th stage of the Giro d’Italia, a 208 km mainly flat route south from Tivoli to Caserta. Cipollini beat Lotto’s Robbie McEwan (2nd) and Cristian Moreni (Ita-Als) after a powerful leadout by his new “zebra-striped train”. This is the Lion King’s 3rd stage win this year, and brings him to within 4 victory’s of Alfredo Binda’s all-time Giro record of 41 stage victories.

The race was marked by the obligatory suicide-break, this time containing Mariano Piccoli, Marin, and Gualdi, which was finally eaten by the pack with 27 km left.

Check back later for more analysis, results, and interviews.
