Cipo Takes Pink!

Mario Cipollini grabbed the stage victory and overall lead after Stage 1 of the Giro, a 221 km run from Groningen Holland to Munster, Germany. Cipo beat Graeme Brown (Panaria) and Robbie McEwen (Lotto) in th expected sprint finish.

A big crash near the end took down several riders and split the peloton, buy it appears Michele Bartoli got the worst of it as he was reported as bleeding and was carted off in the ambulance.

Tomorrow’s stage covers 199km from Cologne to Liege, and will include several climbs and roads used in the Liege Spring Classic – but watch for another bunch sprint finish anyway, as the Lioin King goes after the final 8 victories he needs to claim the all time Giro record.
