Comments on Gent: Hunter, Tafi, & Nardello

Robert Hunter was one of the main protagonists at the Belgian Classic race finishing in 6th place. Nonetheless Robert is not fully satisfied with his performance. “Today – explains the South African rider – I was in perfect condition and ready for the battle. I tried more than once after the Kemmel section to catch-up with the leaders group. At my third attempt I managed to get about 10 metres from the leaders, unfortunately, in these weather conditions, you either catch-up quickly or you end up being cut out. Having said this I proved to be on form winning the chaser’s group sprint ahead of first class sprinters such as Zabel and Museeuw. I’m waiting for the Roubaix, where I shall be giving my all in helping the team”
Andrea Tafi rode the race today already thinking about the Roubaix on Sunday. “I tried to be of use to the team during the first part of the race today; I can’t help thinking about the Paris-Roubaix, a race that I had in my head today. I am determined to do well on Sunday, as I’d like be able to win and wear the ‘leader of the Cup’ shirt”.
Italian Champion Daniele Nardello finished the race in the third group in 44th position. “During the most important part of the race – explains Daniele – that is, the decisive breakaway, I wasn’t amongst the leaders at the head of the race, therefore, I missed out on this occasion. However, I have a good feeling and know that I am in excellent form. Now I am going to regain energy ready for an excellent result at the Roubaix”.
