CSC Scores Again in Aarhus
May 4, 2003 – After a long and difficult period with illness and crashes, today, Jacob Piil had finally found the form that allowed him to make a powerful comeback and take the victory in CSC Classic (UCI 1.2) in Aarhus.
Normally, the early breakaway of a race is caught before the finale, but not today, and the 196 kilometre race was decided among the participants in the bold attack. Team CSC € along with their Team Fakta colleagues € rode and intense race on the country roads of eastern Jutland.
Thomas Bruun Eriksen was instrumental to Piil’s victory. In the finale, Piil had the necessary cool to take the victory.
“This victory comes at a good time for me. I have had some difficult months and I have been working hard to get in shape. When I crashed last week, I thought that my efforts had been in vain. However, I have been making steady progress for a long time now and today I managed to get into the right breakaway where we held the best hand in the tactical games. Thomas deserves a lot of praise for his help today. It is important victory for myself and the team and now I have to make the most of my good form. I want more. Now is the time when I must reap the rewards for all my hard work”, said a very satisfied Jacob Piil after the race.
“Our tactics were perfect and it was a pleasure to watch how we were able to finish the job. Thomas and Jacob worked very well together and we have now been vindicated after our bad luck yesterday”, said Bjarne Riis.
