Public Prosecutor of Brescia: “We don’t want to criminalize cycling”
Very soon they will be hearing the testimony of Garzelli, Simoni, Sgambelluri, and Zakirov.
The pink caravan arrived today in Brescia and while the riders are crossing the finish line, the prosecutors inquiries continue to study the clinical reports and various documents acquired in recent days at Corvara during the by now famous doping inquest.
The Public Prosecutor Mario Conte has revealed the last four cyclists – Garzelli, Simoni, Sgambelluri, and Zakirov – remained involved for their respective cases of positive results at the dope controls, and will be heard
very shortly by the panel of experts that we have seen used recently in the case against Antonio Varriale.
Conte wanted to be precise: “We don’t intend to criminalize the world of cycling or judge the morals of sport”. “The problem – he added – is that we find today that the laws treat them as crimes: when an athlete uses prohibited substances to better his performance, they are committing a crime”.
