Doping: Pantani Cleared
The Federal Appellate Commission has absolved Marco Pantani for the conviction based on the syringe of insulin found in the Roman cyclist’s hotel room in Montecatini during the 2001 Giro d’Italia. “Il Pirata” had originally been disqualified from racing for 8 months by the Disciplinary Commission of the Federal Cycling Federation, when the doping prosecutors of CONI had asked for a year. Also, the commission has absolved the suspension of Stefano Zanini as well, who was disqualified for 6 months, but has confirmed the 9 month ban on Gianpaolo Mondini.
