Beloki, It’s All Off With Stayer
It’s all on, and then all off again, the Stayer deal will not happen, that’s official! In Spanish sports daily Marca, Beloki explains that it will be the best decision for every-one not to go ahead with the deal. Beloki, Abraham Olano and his lawyer, Pablo Arregui went to Italy to thrash things out, but Stayer could not come to an agreement with Beloki on the money. Stayer let him have whatever riders he wanted etc. the money was rumored to be 5 million euros over the next three years.
But He Has Signed For Some-One Else
Joseba Beloki and his brother, Gorka have signed a contract for next year with an undisclosed non-Spanish team. Who the team is will be announced on Thursday, said Pablo Arregui, Beloki’s lawyer.
Jonathan Vaughters Retires
American rider, Jonathan Vaughters has announced his decision to hang up his wheels after 10 years as a professional. He first rode for Santa Clara in 1994 and in 1997 he raced in North America for Comptel-Colorado, where he became USA time trial champ. The next two years he was with US Postal, his big win on Mont Ventoux in the 1999 Dauphine Libere gave him the boost to move on to Credit Agricole as a co-leader for three years. He finishes his career with the div 3 team Prime Alliance.
I’m Off To Italy!
That’s what Angel Casero says he going to do. He wanted a two-year deal with Kelme but that was’nt on offer, so he’s off to Italy. The team that is possibly interested is Aqua Sapone, which will have no connection to Domina Vacance, now going it alone.
Germans Come To Spain!
As we know a lot of Germans go to Mallorca for their holidays, they own most of the island, well two German riders have signed for newish team Baleares-Banesto. Daniel Bracke and Steffen Radochla will ride for the team next season. Bracke was Oympic pursuit champ in 2000, Radochla can sprint abit.
Sergey Mateyev Stay’s At Panaria
The Ukrainian Sergey Mateyev has signed for another year with the team Panaria, he is time trial champ of his country.
Bortolami To Lampre
Italian rider Gianluca Bortolami has signed for Lampre for next season, this year he had a six month suspension for doping whilst with Vini Caldirola.
Javier Gets 18 Months
Javier Pascual Llorente of Kelme has been banned from racing for 18 months after being the only positive for EPO in the Centenary Tour de France. He was caught on the 12th. stage time trial to Cap’decouverte.
