Garzelli Looks To Redeem in ’03
“For 2003 I’m looking for a quiet life. The stress of this year is enough for next 10 years. Now I just wanna think about finding my love for cycling and my condition: the first will arrive with time, and for the second, it also needs time, and I hope to have it.
Mapei is leaving cycling, also for what’s happened to him and, he will restart his career from a small team, Tacconi Sport, the one that helped Frigo. “It’s the ideal
place, because it’s a smaller team, it seems like a family, to find new stimulus. It will be hard to train without racing. In March and April I was used to running the Classics, but this year I will simulate them with only me at the start. And it will change also the methodology of work: I need to do a lot of rhythm cause I won’t racing. I want do a great Giro and Tour. The risk is to be looking for too much, as I will arrive at the Giro with just a few days of races on my legs. But it’s true that I’m an expert rider, 2 years ago I won the Giro and so I think I can manage myself. And I’m not worried about running the Tour: after a year of no racing, it’s right that I show myself in the 2 most important Grand Tours.
Tacconi Sport is completely different from Mapei, which was the cycling’s battleship. Taccnoi is a young and brave team: at the Giro I’ll be waiting for a great help from Zampieri, Mason, Simone Masciarelli and Cheula. And on flat there are riders like Andriotto, Apollonio, Gerosa, Mazzoleni and Bortolami, if he will run it, that they don’t need to learn anything. And I’ve to think at the rest, and Im waiting with impatience to try myself.
