What's Cool In Road Cycling

History Repeating Itself In Spain

After he had won the Vuelta, Aitor Gonzбlez and the Kelme team met with Spain’s Government Leader, Aznar, in Alicante to be honored at a jersey presentation. All the team had their team issue clothing, except Gonzбlez who was casually dressed, bomber jacket & jeanes. Was this an act of rebellion or just an example of his undisciplined behaviour, as his manager, Vicente Belda would call it?

This just after Miguel Indurain had described Gonzбlez as a bit like himself, in that he was a complete cyclist, but will need more experience before he could think of wining the Tour de France. Vicente Belda, in an interview in Spanish sports daily, Marca, criticized Gonzбlez for not following team orders and riding selfishly throughout the race and for celebrating with his best mate Miguel Martin Perdiguero (Acqua & Sapone) after the win, and not his team.

It’s unlikely he will stay at Kelme, but you can bet they will not let him go easily.
