What's Cool In Road Cycling

Heras Gets Liberty From BIG Tex

Roberto Heras has left the U.S Postal team to go to Manolo Saiz’s new team, Liberty Seguros as team leader. Vuelta Espaсa winner this year and in 2000 has put him-self in the frame to stop ex-team mate Lance from winning a sixth Tour de France.

In a deal that guarantees the same wages that he was getting at U.S. Postal, about 1.2 million Euros a year, for the next three years, he will lead the liberty team along with Vuelta surprise, Nozal and Igor Gonzalez de Galeano.

His new team will have to pay out some thing like 1.5 million Euros to Postal for his release with a year left on his contract. Saiz will probably sign another seven or eight riders before he’s finished, it’s rumored that his old sub-sponsor, Eroski, will be joining the set up to bring in more money and riders.

Meanwhile at U.S. Postal Johan Bruyneel is a bit pissed off about losing Tex’s right hand man, but he said if he has to go so be it. Postal have signed Josй Azevedo who should be able to drag Lance up the Cols.
