Flanders-iteamNova’s Dave “Macca” McKenzie sends this final installment of his Tour de Georgia diary. Many thanks to Dave for taking us inside the peloton! “Well it feels like yesterday that we were lining up for the Prologue of the inaugural “Tour De Georgia”, and now I am sitting at home in Belgium getting ready to leave for my next race.”

The penultimate stage of The Tour De Georgia certainly shook up the GC standings. Our trusty GC rider Al Iacuone, ever so consistent in tours, again made the final selection of eight riders and put himself into 7th place overall on the final standings, only ten seconds off 3rd place.

Scott Guyton also put in a solid ride finishing in between the break and the main peloton on the hardest stage and managing 10th overall.

The final stage around Atlanta City Centre was actually a tough 15km kermesse course, but ended in a bunch sprint. I suffered early on having to chase a few breaks down and almost hitting the showers early, but to my delight I actually got back up there and placed myself and Scotty in a good position for the sprint.

Scott finished 6th, an impressive ride. For me it was a step closer to getting 100% confidence back in the bunch kicks and slowly (I hope) finding that elusive form.

Chris Horner and Saturn rode a brilliant race to snatch and defend the race lead in the last two days so I commend them for their efforts on a great tour.

Georgia is a great state for a bike race – rolling hills, smooth roads (mostly) good weather, and with the great organization of the race, there is not much else a bike rider can ask for.

It was also a good mark of return to form for Flanders-iteamNova. I’m already looking forward to heading off to Germany tomorrow and for what the rest of the season holds. Thanks for reading my diaries and don’t hesitate to log onto iteamnova.com for our continued reports and stories of the season ahead.
