Italian Shorts: Team News

Acqua&Sapone News
The non-Tour qualifying Italian team will run these two week-end races in Abruzzo: Saturday the Criterium d’Abruzzo and Sunday the Trofeo Matteotti. These are their riders: Lorenzo Cardellini, Daniele Bennati, Filippo Simeoni, Federico Giabbecucci, Massimo Giunti, Simone Masciarelli, Claudio Astolfi, Cesere Di Cintio e Garcia “Curro”. Cipo is at the beach…

Fassa News
The Fassa riders arrived 2 days ago in Luxemburg, and they are ready to start. Yesterday they got the controls for blood and urine, and it’s everything ok for the 9
riders: Fabio Baldato, Ivan Basso, Wladimir Belli, Volodimir Gustov, Serhiy Honchar, Serguei Ivanov, Nicola Loda, Oscar Pozzi and Marco Velo. After the control, they did a training of 2.5 hours.

Problems for Caucchioli. After his crash at the italian national championship, now he must take a rest of 2 weeks. So he’ll spend some days in Livigno, with his cute wife. He should come back at the Regio Tour, from 7 to 11 august. Their team for Tour de France: Andrea Brognara, Stefano Casagranda, Davide Casarotto, Laurent Dufaux, Ivan Gotti, Martin Hvastija, Ruslan Ivanov, Cristian Moreni, Alexandr Shefer.
Keep an eye on Moreni. He rode a great Giro, always at the attack and always ahead.

Lampre News
Pietro Algeri is fully confident in Raimondas Rumsas as captain of the team: “The Lithuanian rider, though debuting in the Grande Boucle, can enter the first ten
positions of the final ranking; I expect to see him among the protagonists both on the mountains and in the time trials”.

The team seems interested to replace Mapei for next year, with the belgian sponsor Quick Step. A lot of riders of the actual Mapei will leave, but some will have still a
contract for next year. As for example: Steels, Evans, Bettini. For Garzelli the contract is at the end, but the team Saeco seems more interested in him than on Simoni.
