Kelme to Botero “You Can’t Leave”

– Reported by Datasport.it –

Kelme does not want to lose its team captain, the Colombian Santiago Botero, who has expressed his desire to leave the Spanish team to join the German outfit Telekom.

“Botero has a contract until the end of 2003 and I’m counting on him – said one of the directors of Kelme, Vincente Belda – here we adore him, both on a sporting sense and as a man. As the leader of our team he is marvelous. He wants to change the air, but we can’t possibly let him leave”.

Botero, who at Zolder was crowned champion of the world in the time trial, won two stages of the last Tour de France and finished in the fourth spot overall. “What has happened to Santiago is natural, it’s in a moment of much glory so many others are courting him” added Belda, revealing that Kelme has proposed an addition to his salary and an extension for three more years.
