“Legends” Training Camp to Help Eddie B.

Some of the biggest names from US cycling are donating their time to put on a training camp that will benefit the Eddie B Relief Fund. The idea was started by Greg Lemond, and soon after joined by riders like Steve Hegg, Harvey Nitz, Roy Knickman and many more.

Here’s the news release we received on the camps:

Stars – Led by Greg LeMond – Set Fantasy Cycling Camp as Fund Raiser for Eddie B.

Greg LeMond is putting on a one of a kind ‘Fantasy Camp’ to help raise money to benefit his old coach and friend Eddie B. who lost his home during the California wildfires. Greg will be assisted by Olympians: Steve Hegg, Harvey Nitz, Nelson Vails, Ken Carpenter, Wayne Stetina, Shaun Wallace. Roy Knickman, Danny Van Haute, Mark Whitehead, Brent Emery, Thurlow Rogers, John Beckman, and multi National Champion € Scott Berryman. Everyone is donating his time, and paying his own expenses to make this all possible.

The camp, designed for cyclists and triathletes of all ability, will be held from Feb. 4-9, 2004 at the Tamarack Resort Hotel in Carlsbad, CA. It will feature skills training taught by Greg and Olympians for cornering, climbing, and time trials. Plus techniques for criterium, road, and velodrome/track racing. Weight lifting will be taught to enhance strength and power.

There will be special equipment demonstrations including: hypoxic tents and hypoxic trainers, Velodyne trainers, and the Copeland Ecentric Trainer. Complete performance testing will be available performed by Dr. Brent Kay – including: VO2 Max, Lactate Threshold heart rate, Watts at Lactate Threshold & Maximum, blood testing and body fat percentage. Late afternoons will be a time to learn from Greg and the Olympians as they discuss a wide range of topics, from training to memories about their racing careers.

Saturday night, a special Black Tie Banquet to recognize the 1984 Olympic Cycling Team, Eddie B. and other well known athletes will be held at Sea World.

Campers will receive a USA helmet & sunglasses provided by Rudy Project.( Value $355.00) A personal photo CD of the Camp, including photos with Greg and the Olympians. A free Fantasy Camp Cycling Jersey (Value -$75.00), a free Fantasy Camp T-shirt, and socks from DeFeet Socks.

The camps will also include:
Skills Training – taught by Greg and Olympians for cornering, climbing, and time trials. Plus techniques for criterium, road, and velodrome/track racing. Weight lifting taught to enhance strength and power.

Special Equipment Demonstrations

High Altitude Simulation – Hypoxic tents and hypoxic exercise equipment for use on velodyne trainers will be demonstrated by Shaun Wallace. Some tents will be available for use at night.

Velodyne Trainers – Greg LeMond shows how to use to develop strength and power.

Copeland Eccentric Trainer – Secrets will be demonstrated by Zac and Vic Copeland.
