Mapei’s Cheula Wins Circuit des Mines

Gian Paolo Cheula conquered today the General Classifications of the Circuit des Mines. The talented young MAPEI-Quick Step rider won the 1st stage of the short French stage race and reacquired the leader’s jersey in yesterday’s difficult stage. Today his objective was that of defending his leadership in the two semi stages. Cheula beat Morten Sonne of the Fakta team by 1’02” and Andy Flickinger of the AG 2r Provoyance team by 1’53”. The MAPEI-Quick Step team’s performance was completed with Graziano Gasparre winning the 2nd stage and with Evgueni Petrov and Fabian Cancellara gaining respectively 4th and 6th places in the final classifications. This is Cheula’s 2nd win as a professional and the MAPEI-Quick Step Young Riders Group’s 26th win of the season.
