McEwen: “To Beat Cipollini Has A Particular Taste”.

Finally Mario Cipollini has found an opponent: Robbie McEwen, 30 years old, the Australian with the passion for the sprints. The finish at Strasburg after 232 kms has been the return match for McEwen about the finsih at Munster. For McEwen this is the 13th victory in this season, which started with his 4 victory at the Tour Down Under, and followed with 2 important victories at Paris-Nice. At the finish in Munster McEwen was hindered by Lombardi, the team mate of Cipollini. But this time the Australian sprinter didn’t lose his wheel, and he fired his opponent at the photo finish. Behind them, Degano, Brown, Petacchi and Guidi. Garzelli still the leader.

Cipollini: “You should try to stay with the wind in your face for all that time. McEwen … has been all the time behind me until the last second. The truth is that I’ve all the eyes of my opponents on me, and the weight of the race falls all on me. But it’s ok, the defeats make the victories even nicer”.
