The Spanish rider Juan Miguel Mercado of ibanesto.com, took the leaders jersey to-day in the 17th. edition of the Vuelta a Castilla y Leуn. This 4th. stage was considered the Queen of the race, and every-one was expecting escapes from the first kilometre, Euskaltel tried to contain the peloton for their race leader David Herrero. With 9 kilometres to the finish all were together and Juan Miguel Mercado started his big attack on the assent of the Alto del Redondal, team mate Piepoli, Juan Horrach (Milaneza) and David Bernabeu (Carvalhelhos-Boavista) set off to catch him, but by the finish of the stage up this 1st. catogorie climb, Mercado had 25 seconds on Horrach and 28 on Bernabeu.
