Guillamon Wins Spanish National Championship

The Spanish National road race championships were held on a windswept, undulating circuit of 216,3 kilometres in Salamanca, a fast race allowed only small groups to gain small margins before being reeled back in.

A large bunch of approximately 60 riders entered the last 10 kms. together, when a very bad crash split the field, allowing a group of 25 a gap, in the confusion. Santiago Blanco of ibanesto.com had to be rushed to hospital with suspected head and neck injuries. The 25 were all together with 2 kilometres to go as they started to fox for the sprint, Juan Carlos Guillamon (Jazztel-Costa Almeria) took them all by surprize jumping at 700 metres with Abraham Olano (ONCE) trying to close on him, but he held him off on the line. Martin Perdiguero (Aqua & Sapone) brought the bunch in 2 seconds later for third.

The 27 year old said this was the best win of his career and he cant wait to show off his jersey in the Vuela Espaсa in September.
