Old and New Generations Confront at the Giro del Lazio

– Reported by Datasport.it –

It will be a Giro del Lazio inundated with new features. The start in Rieti and the arrival in Nettuno, after 196 kilometers, in fact, are completely new in the history of the race through the Lazio region of Italy. Other than that, new for this year is the edition of a KOM competition, with climbs categorized in Palestrina, Rocca Priora, and Rocca di Papa (Campi di Annibale). The finale will be contested on a downtown circuit of 4.6 kilometers, to be done three times, before finishing by the sea.

The field consists of many already affirmed champions and emerging young riders. Among the starters will be last year’s winner, Massimo Donati, who will find plenty of competition by the likes of Michele Bartoli, Davide Rebellin, Paolo Bettini, Andrea Tafi (winner of the 1991, 1996, and 1998 editions), and the Italian National Champion Salvatore Commesso. Among the young up and comers will be Franco Pellizzotti (recent winner of the Giro di Fruili), Ivan Basso (winner of the young rider classification in the Tour de France), Simone Masciarelli (protagonist in last year’s edition), and the strong Ukranian Yaroslav Popvich.
