Piepoli Wins Vuelta Ciclista Aragon Overall

Piepoli wins Vuelta Ciclista Aragon overall.

Leonardo Piepoli held on to his overall lead in this the 39th edition of the race. Apart from Zabel’s win on the second stage into Barbastro, it was an Italian white wash… Piepoli led from start to finish & took the points jersey, Zabel the sprints, and the saving of Spanish pride, Carlos Torrent (Jazztel) won the mountains. A bit embarrasing, lucky ally Piepoli rides for i banesto.com, but this will not stop the sports papers tomorrow slagging off the home riders.

To-day’s stage Zabel was out sprinted again, this time by Giovanni Lombardi, who proved that Aqua & Sapone are not a one man team, as Cipollini had gone home early, not for the first or last time!

Final Overall 1st. Piepoli 19h 59m 29seconds.

2nd.Shefer at 29 secs.

3rd. Osa at 32 secs.

4th. Fernandez at 44 secs.

26th. McRay (USA) at 3.59.

27th. Barry (CAN) at 3.59.
