Quaranta and Ullrich In the Sights of Saeco
– Reported by Gazzetta.it –
The Red squad of Saeco-Longoni Sport is causing quite a commotion in the world of professional cycling. Claudio Corti and Giuseppe Martinelli will soon need to officialize the list of his 25 racers that will make up their squad for 2003. They’re awaiting Ivan Quaranta’s return from his vacation in Mexico so that they can confirm his addition to the team.
“With Ivan we are agreed on almost everything – said Corti to Gazzetta.it – we are missing only the definition of certain details, nothing very serious”. And therefore it is almost certain that the sprinter from Cremesca will be alongside Gilberto Simoni and Danilo DiLuca next year.
The new name is the one and only Jan Ullrich, who has definetely left Telekom and is still in talks with the CSC team run by his ex-teammate Bjarne Riis. Ullrich is currently serving a suspension that will last until the end of March 23rd for a positive test for amphetimines, but the German is still being courted by the Saeco team. Corti has already made a finacial offer to the German who may possibly prefer the Riis solution. In the next few days we will know more. Right now there are 22 racers signed to Saeco-Longoni Sport: 18 who are continuing from last year and the new arrivals Zanini, Fornaciari, Shefer, and Bucciero.
