Setmana Catalana: Zberg Wins Stage 2

To-day on stage 2 of the Setmana Catalana, Beat Zberg of Rabobank took the stage. Erik Zabel missed the boat and lost the overall.

Another day for the sprinters, except the top one was’nt there. Beat Zberg won the bunch sprint of 64 riders, Erik Zabel was 1 minute 11 seconds behind the action. Lance Armstrong (US Postal) finnished very strongly in the front group and will be looking forward to fridays hard stage for a test of his form.

Herr Zabel lost the overall to the Spanish rider with Phonak, Gonzalo Bayarri.

Tomorrow, much the same as to-day, 174.8 kilometres from Castello D’Empuries to Parets Del Valles, two hills, the last 34 kilometres from the finnish.

Stage 2 Result:

1st. B.Zberg (RAB) 3:44:58.
2nd. J.Flecha (BAN) same time.
3rd. G.Bayarri (PHO) same time.
4th. W.Belli (LAM) same time.
5th. A.Engels (RAB) same time.
6th. C.Torrent (ALM) same time.

Overall After Stage 2:

1st. G.Bayarri (PHO) 7:10:13.
2nd. B.Zberg (RAB) same time.
3rd. A.Engels (RAB) same time.
4th. J.Flecha (BAN) same time.
5th. V.Ekimov (USP) same time.
6th. W.Belli (LAM) same time.
