What's Cool In Road Cycling

Sevilla Leads Asturias

Oscar Sevilla of Kelme, put all the rumours concerning him behind him and took the lead in the Vuelta a Asturias to-day. It was a day for the Eastern European riders, the Russian rider Andrei Zinchenco from the Portuguese team LA Pecol won the 165 kilometre stage finishing in Gijon. At the bottom of the main obstacle of the day, the San Martin de Huerces, Polish rider Jaroslaw Rebiewski (CCC-Polsat), tried his luck on his own from a group of six, he got 20 seconds but it was not enough, he was passed, and dropped by Zinchenco, who stayed away to the finish.

Zinchenco had 1 minute 48 seconds to wait to see Sevilla bring in all the other favourites: Beloki, Bayarri, Nozal, Piepoli, Botero & Zarrabeitia. Second overall is Beuchar (Phonak), third Vazquez (Relax).

Tomorrow starts from Gijon with three main climbs and finishes in Avila.
