Freire & Hinault, World Champ Stage Winners.

The Spaniard Oscar Freire is only the second World champ to win a stage of the Tour de France, the last was Bernard Hinault in 1981. Armstrong, Leblanc & Brochard have all won stages, but not while in possesion of the rainbow jersey. In 1990 Greg Lemond won the Tour as World champ, but he never won a stage.

Valkenburg Stage Finnish For 2005 Tour.

It was announced that Valkenburg in Holand will host a stage finnish in the 2005 Tour. The finnish will be up the famous Cauberg climb. It is used in the World Cup Amstel Gold Race and in the 1998 World Champs, the race will take in the Ardennes before returning to France via Wasquehal.

AG2R Sack Mechanic.

Philippe Tomasini, mechanic for the French team AG2R-Pervoyance, has been sacked after investigations that he was drug traficking in Brittany. The team confirmed the story that was printed in the French daily LeMonde, Tomasina and 12 others were involved.

Angel Reappears.

On the 21st. of July Angel Cassero of the Team Coast will start his first race since his operation on the knee. He will be starting in a criterium in the German town of Essen, his next race, if all is well, will be the Clбsica de Villafranca de Ordizia.

ABX, New Team For 2003.

The co-sponser of Lotto, ABX are going to have a Div 1 UCI team in Belgium next year, they are puting 2 million euros in the team to be finalised by the end of July, the team will have 8 or 10 Belgian riders.

Tour On TV In China.

China has joined 66 other countries that now show the Tour de France live.
