Tour of Sweden: Stage 4
– reported by CSC Tiscali –
On the first hilly stage of the Swedish stage race Postgirot Open, CSC Tiscali’s Danish road champion, Jacob Piil, came close to taking the stage win, after 190 km of racing.
Piil reached the finish in a small group of riders that had opened up a gap on the first of four tours up a steep climb near the town of Billingen. Piil finished 2nd in the sprint behind Gerolsteiner’s Renй Haselbacher who beat Piil by the smallest of margins.
“Actually, Jacob crashed on the line. He fell of his bike just as he crossed the finish. In my opinion, the German did not ride fairly in the sprint. Nevertheless, Jacob showed the team colours in front on the first of the two tough stages in the race”, said Christian Andersen after the 180 km from Motala to Skцvde.
In the general classification, Michael Sandstoed is 7th. Piil is 1 second behind in 8th spot.
