Verbrugghe Wins Alone – Giro Stage 7

Team Lotto-Adecco’s prologue specialist Rik Verbrugghe (Bel) won today’s 7th Giro d’Italia stage, a 159 km three lap circuit around the Ligurean town of Versilia.

Verbrugghe attacked his 9 breakaway companions on the final climb of the day, cresting the summit alone and descending like a madman to beat Raphael Schweda (Ger) of Team Coast and Cristian Moreni (Ita) of Alessio by a minute.

The weather improved today from yesterday’s pouring rains, and there were no major chanegs to g.c.
