What's Cool In Road Cycling

Vuelta Stage 7: It’s Cipo Again!

After getting over the mountains in the last two days, Mario Cipollini has proved a few people wrong (me) by winning another stage.

The lead out he recieved from his Aqua & Sapone team was ”perfecto”, they made Telekom and Mapei look ineffectual. With one and a half kilometres to the line they swept by the pink train and took over the fast moving bunch as they bore down on the finish in Mбlaga. Zabel managed 2nd. and kept his points jersey by one point, possibly he could lose it tomorrow to Super Mario before he goes home on Sunday.

The day started as usual with the pointless break going up the road at 25 kilometres and being caught 30 kilometres before the finish, Van Goolen (again), Nieto (again) and new boys Portal and Piccoli. In the last 7 kilometres Colom and Gadeo tried for nothing again in front of a bunch doing 68 kph, no chance. It was down to the sprinters’ teams now, and you know the rest, apart from Domo doing a lot of work for Blijlevens to finish 5th.

Tomorrow could be a day for birthday boy Francesco Casagrande of Fassa Bortolo who is 32.

Overall no change.
