What's Cool In Road Cycling

World Cup 2003: Milan-San Remo Previews

Enough of this checking out the girls from the other side of the room – it’s time to dance! Well… start racing at least… Round 1 of the 2003 World Cup rolls out of Milan this Saturday (9:00 AM sharp – well, give or take, it’s Italian time..), due to arrive on Via Roma in San Remo on the sunny Mediterranean coast about 7 hours later.

All this week we’ll be reporting news, info, rider comments, and of course a full race report, as our own special way to help ring in the unofficial start of the racing season, and hopefully melt some snow so you poor tossers out east can get on the roads again.

We start by by opening a page of the history books and reliving an extraordinary Milan-San Remo from 1961. PCN contributing historian Jan Didier wasn’t there, but he knows some people that were, and presents this accounting of that day’s events and an unlikely winner…
