Zabel Wins At Aragon

Piepoli keeps overall, Zabel takes stage.

To-day was a day for the smaller teams, Jazztel, Relax, AG2R & Phonak had a man in nearly every break. On the run in, many tried there luck, small groups formed, re-formed and were caught by a fast moving bunch.

Scot David Millar could be seen at the back of the main chase group, he was tailed off to finish 74 th at 30 seconds, with Cipollini, Zabel & all the stars. Big loser of the day could have been Zabel as he punctured in the last 15 kms, also Blanco crashed on one of the descents, both made it back. With Telekom and Aqua & Sapone setting a fast pace at the front and ibanesto.com looking after Piepoli, it was all together for the last 3 kilometres.

It was all out war for the finish between the two teams, but the German came out on top. Also Michael Barry, (US Postal) of Canada, finished 32nd. at 9 secs and is 34th. overall at 1.44.

Tomorrow, Friday, they will dispute the third stage, considered the Queen, 174 kilometres between Alcorisa and La Estation de Valdelinares, with 2 ” puertas” of first catogary, most of the day is spent above 1,000 meters, and the finish is at 1,980 meters.
