15th victory of the season for André Greipel

André Greipel has won for the fifteenth time this season! This afternoon he sprinted to the victory in the GP Jef Scherens in Louvain. Lotto Belisol controlled the race from the start. After some attempts with Boris Vallée, a front group of fourteen riders was formed with Kris Boeckmans and Sean De Bie. Six riders would join them later, with Kenny Dehaes.

Four laps from the end Bjorn Leukemans set up a counterattack of seven. Jonas Van Genechten and André Greipel were part of it. The peloton didn’t let them go and because of this action the leaders were within reach. In the last laps there were some new attacks, also Jonas Van Genechten was active in that phase. The group of five with Jonas was caught with three kilometers to go. Lotto Belisol prepared the bunch sprint and André Greipel finished it off perfectly.

Kurt Van de Wouwer, sports director: “Oliver Naesen rode at the front of the bunch until one and a half kilometer to go. Then Sibi took over and after the last turn it was up to Jonas Van Genechten. André was in third position at that moment, he won. We never lost control of the race. We didn’t have to ride in the peloton because we had strong riders in front. The team is in the winning mood with this month already the victory of Greipel in the Brussels Cycling Classic, the victory of Van Genechten in Fourmies and the stage win of Adam Hansen in the Vuelta.”
