2013 British Cycling National Track Championships Day 1 Results Round-Up
Results from day one of competition at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester where Ed Clancy beat fellow Olympic Team Pursuit Champion Steven Burke to take gold in the men’s Individual Pursuit, Olympian Jess Varnish took victory in the women’s 500m Time Trial and World Champion Jon-Allan Butterworth (with a new World Record) and Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott (pilot) took the two Para-cycling Pursuit gold medals.
Men’s Individual Pursuit:
Gold: Edward Clancy (Rapha Condor JLT) 4.26.015
Silver: Steven Burke (Node4-Giordana Racing) 4.27.408
Bronze: Joseph Kelly (100% ME) caught in 3.00.555
Speaking to British Cycling after the final, double Olympic Champion, Ed Clancy said:
“Four laps to go in the final I just gritted my teeth and dug in as much as I could. It was hard, I just went flat out. It was good to see Steven Burke and Joe riding hard; it’s looking good for the Team Pursuit.”
Women’s 500m Time Trial:
Gold: Jessica Varnish (Team V-Sprint Racing) 34.445
Silver: Victoria Williamson (VC Norwich) 34.913
Bronze: Dannielle Khan (Solihull CC) 35.345
Talking to British Cycling after the race, new National Champion Jess Varnish said:
“It’s not a personal best but it’s the best I could have done today, I’m just happy to take the win!”
Para-cycling Time Trial:
BVI Mixed 1000m:
