What's Cool In Road Cycling

A Good Test at the Sibiu Tour

Area Zero-D’Amico-Bottecchia outstanding on the roads of Romania. Now training camp at Rocca di Cambio 12-18 July.
Area Zero D’Amico-Bottecchia put in a good performance at the Sibiu Cycling Tour, the Romanian stage race that took place from July 1st to the 5th. On more than one occasion Antonio Parrinello came close to bringing what would have been well deserved victory to the Italian continental team led by team manager Ivan de Paolis.

“We are satisfied with how our riders rode the race. In all the stages we raced like protagonists, without fear, in pursuit of that victory that alas, remains elusive. Once again we got very close to success, as we often have in the past several weeks. The race turned out to be nice and very challenging. We proved that we are competitive as we went toe to toe with teams from a professional level like Androni, Southeast, Nippo-Fantini, and CCC Polsat, which are very strong teams that we also saw in action at the Giro d’Italia. For us this is definitely a positive experience that boosts morale and motivates us to grow further,” explains Sports Director Massimo Codol.

“Parrinello made it into the top 10 three times, with one podium, a 2nd place in the difficult climbing arrival at Balea Lac in the 3rdstage, and 4th place at the climbing arrival at Paltinis in the second stage, after having battled head to head with the best riders in the pack. Too bad for the final 4th place in the general classification won by Mauro Finetto (Southeast) on Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat); Parrinello would have deserved the podium for the sheer guts and determination he displayed,” continues DS Codol. “Paolo Ciavatta also had a very good test (6th in the general classification). He was always up front and supporting Parrinello in all the stages. In Romania we also got some encouraging signals from Giorgio Bocchiola and from our young guys, whose main objective in this, their first season among the pros, is to grow and gain experience. I would say that there are all the prerogatives to look forward with confidence to the upcoming events of the summer”.

Upcoming events that Area Zero D’Amico-Bottecchia will prepare for during a team retreat from July 12th to the 18th, in Abruzzo, on the Apennines, at Rocca di Cambio (L’Aquila).
